UPDATE: Teen Killed in Aurora Shooting Identified; Police Continue to Investigate

The 18-year-old man who was shot to death while sitting on a porch in Aurora Thursday evening has been identified as Joseph B. Trejo of the 400 block of Bangs Street in Aurora. 

Meanwhile, Aurora police are pursuing leads into the shooting death that occurred at about 7:10 p.m. as Trejo sat on the front porch with his 31-year-old cousin in the 200 block of North Smith Street, according to an Aurora Police Department press release. The cousin was also shot and sustained a non-life threatening wound.

The two were approached by a light-skinned Hispanic male, between the ages of 16 and 20 years old, who exited a cream-colored sedan and then fired multiple shots at the men before running south on Smith and then west on Claim Street, according to the news release. The vehicle continued south on Smith at a high rate of speed. 

The suspect is further described as being thin and was wearing a light-colored sweatshirt and cream-colored khaki pants. 

The two men were taken to separate Aurora hospitals. Trejo, who sustained several gunshot wounds, was pronounced dead at 7:43 p.m.

There is no firm motive in the shooting, however, it does not appear random in nature and gang motivation has not been ruled out. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday at the Kane County Coroner’s Office.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: An 18-year-old man is dead following a shooting Wednesday night in the 200 block of North Smith Street in Aurora, according to Aurora police. 

Aurora police are looking for the shooter who they said pulled up to a home on North Smith street and opened fire on the 18-year-old man and a 31-year-old man while they sat on the front porch about 7:10 p.m., according to an Aurora Police Department press release. The shooting, police said, does not appear to be random. 

The 18-year-old man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of his family, was taken to an Aurora hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:43 p.m., according to the news release. The 31-year-old man was in stable condition at a different Aurora hospital.

The shooter, who is described as a light-skinned Hispanic male between the age of 16 and 20 years old, fled the scene on foot, running west on Claim Street and the vehicle, which is described as cream-colored, four-door vehicle, headed south on Smith Street following the shooting, according to the news release.
