UPDATE: Missing Batavia Man Reunited With Family By Good Samaritan

According to the family, Peter Maloney became lost and boarded the wrong train after arriving at Union Station on an Amtrak train.

The search for a missing Batavia man has ended with a story worthy of a Hallmark Christmas special.

Batavia police on Tuesday had put out a press release asking for the public's help in finding Peter A. Maloney, a 68-year-old man with mental disabilities who boarded a train in Champaign but did not get off when his family went to pick him up Monday at at the station in Aurora/Naperville.

They were able to happily report at about 7 p.m. that Maloney was located on an inbound Metra train from West Chicago to Chicago and retuned to his family by a good Samaritan.

At around 4:15 p.m., the Samaritan, who asked to remain anonymous, saw Maloney sitting on the train, appearing lost and tired. The person asked if Maloney was lost, and he replied yes.

The man gave his cell phone to Maloney, who in turn called his family in Batavia.

The good Samaritan then stayed with Maloney at the train station until family members arrived.

According to the family, Maloney became lost and boarded the wrong train after arriving at Union Station on an Amtrak train. He somehow walked across the street to the Ogilvie Transportation Center and took an outbound train to West Chicago, where he spent the night outside on the platform.

This afternoon, Maloney boarded the inbound Metra in West Chicago, where he was seen by the good Samaritan.

Maloney was uninjured when reunited with family.

No further information is available at this time.
