Update: Fire Causes $120,000 in Damages Inside Batavia Motorcycle Repair Shop

Many bikes were damaged in the incident, according to the Fire Department. Here's what happened.

A fire in Batavia on Thursday caused an estimated $120,000 in damages, mostly to motorcycles in a repair shop, officials announced this morning.

The fire occurred at Diesel's Service and Repair on the 800 block of East Wilson Street. The Batavia Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at 6:52 p.m., according to a press release.

Two residents stopped into the Batavia Fire Department's Station 1, located at 800 E. Wilson St. just down the street from the incident. Upon arrival, there was heavy black smoke showing from the building.

"A fire was located in the shop area, which had many motorcycles in for repair and custom design bikes," the release said.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.

Fire Response

The fire was under control by 7:20 p.m. Thursday. There was fire and smoke damage throughout the entire business.

There was an estimated $20,000 in structural damages and $100,000 in damages to the contents of the business, including the motorcycles.

Diesel's Service and Repair announced on its Facebook page that they would have a better scope of the damage this Friday morning. They reported lots of water in the building from fighting the fire.

Residents expressed their sympathies and were glad no one was hurt in the incident.
