UPDATE: Car Driver Cited in Batavia Car vs. Motorcycle Crash; Geneva Motorcycle Driver Injured

A Forest Park car driver on Thursday sideswiped a Geneva motorcycle driver near downtown Batavia, according to police. Here are more details on what happened.

A 26-year-old Forest Park woman received a citation on Thursday after a  that injured a Geneva man, police said.

Esther Reisinger was cited for improper lane usage in connection to the crash, according to a Batavia Police report. The incident occurred at 7 p.m. at the intersection of North Batavia Avenue (Route 31) and McKee Street.

Reisinger's 2010 blue Mazda 3 sideswiped the 48-year-old Geneva man's motorcycle, according to a crash report. The man was ejected from his cycle and sustained injuries. He was transported to Delnor Hospital's emergency room.

The Geneva driver's 1989 maroon Honda Goldwing motorcycle had to be towed from the scene. Reisinger's Mazda had damage to the passenger's side front corner, but it did not have to be towed.

There was more than $1,500 of damage to any one person's vehicle or property, according to the crash report.

Crash Narrative

Reisinger was northbound on Route 31 in the inside lane approaching McKee Street. When the vehicles ahead of her came to a stop, Reisinger made a right lane change.

The motorcycle driver was northbound on the outside (curb) lane of Route 31 when Reisinger abruptly changed lanes, according to the report.

"(The motorcycle driver) attempted to avoid (Reisinger) but was sideswiped and ran off the roadway," the report said.

Reisinger said she didn't see the motorcycle in the other lane next to her vehicle. She stated to police that she sideswiped the motorcycle.

A 62-year-old Geneva man and a 58-year-old Geneva woman were traveling behind the motorcycle driver. They observed Reisinger change lanes into the motorcycle due to vehicles stopped ahead of her, the crash report said.

A Sept. 11 court date was assigned to this case, according to the report.
