UPDATE: 46-Year-Old Man Found Dead Along West Bank of Fox River

Police say the man had sustained injuries and the incident is "suspicious in nature."

Police say they have identified the 46-year-old man whose body was found Monday morning along the banks of the Fox River on Batavia's west side, but they are withholding the information pending notification of the man's next of kin.

According to a joint Batavia Police Department and Kane County Forest Preserve Police Department press release, a resident discovered the man's body along the west bank of the Fox River in an area east of the 500 block of North Batavia Avenue and east of the bike path. Batavia police and fire personnel were dispatched to the area at 11:23 a.m. Monday, the press release said.

The man was unconscious and not breathing at the time the resident discovered him, police said.

The man had sustained injuries, but as of 10 p.m. Monday, the cause of the injuries and the cause of death are unknown, pending an autopsy by the Kane County Coroner's Office.

Police consider the incident suspicious in nature, according to the press release.

The Kane County Forest Preserve and the Batavia police departments will conduct the investigation together, the press release said.
