Twist on Drug Paraphernalia Arrest—Intent to Smoke Synthetic Marijuana

The following information was supplied by the Geneva Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Most arrests for possession of drug paraphernalia in Geneva's police blotter have the stated subtext of "with intent to smoke marijuana."

This report is a slight twist on that theme—the same charge, but with intent to smoke synthetic marijuana. 

Geneva police arrested Todd Duncan, 25, of Batavia for possession of drug paraphernalia around 12:40 a.m. June 23 in a parking lot of a store in the 1500 block of South Randall Road, reports said.

The complaint with the 16th Circuit Court said Duncan knowingly possessed a one-hitter smoking pipe "with intent to inhale synthetic cannabis into his body." Duncan has a court date of July 10 at the Kane County Branch Court, 530 S. Randall Road, St. Charles.

Synthetic marijuana was once disguised as incense or potpourri, and made widely available in gas stations, conveniences stores and tobacco stores in the Chicago suburbs,. The products have since been banned.

The issue of synthetic-drug use after a single-car crash in Batavia Township took the life of 19-year-old Max Dobner of Aurora. Karen Dobner, Max's mom, founded To The Maximus! Foundation to help on the dangers of synthetic drugs.

 remembered the one-year-anniversary of Dobner's death and renewed the fight against artificial-drug use.
