Three-Car Chain Reaction in a Parking Lot and a Food-Spill Distraction Among Accidents Reported This Week

The following information was supplied by the Geneva Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A young driver hitting the gas instead of the break, a driver distracted while eating some food and a hit and run are among the accidents found this week in Geneva police reports.

Three-Car Collision in Kaneville Road Parking Lot—The rear of a Chevrolet Suburban driven by James Bartusek, 17, of Geneva collided with the driver’s side of a parked Hyundai Santa Fe which then collided with the driver’s side of a parked Ford Escape around 11:50 a.m. in the parking lot near soccer fields at 3507 Kaneville Road about 40 feet west of Peck Road, report said.

Bartusek’s Suburban, containing two passengers, was attempting to back up when the driver inadvertently pressed the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal, reports said. The Suburban hit the Santa Fe, and the “force of the impact caused the rear passenger side bumper of (the Santa Fe) to strike the driver side door (of the Ford Escape,)” reports said. More than $1,500 damage was done to any one vehicle, and a tow was necessary due to the crash.
