St. Charles Police Accuse 67-Year-Old Man of Assaulting Nephew's Girlfriend

Bail was set at $250,000 for a 67-year-old man charged with sexually assaulting a 35-year-old Aurora woman in a St. Charles home last week.

Gary R. Kluber, who temporarily resided in the 100 block of S. 10th Avenue, was charged with two counts of criminal sexual assault and two counts of criminal sexual abuse, St. Charles police said in a press release.

According to the police report, the alleged assault occured June 2 and was reported to police the next day. The victim was visiting her boyfriend of 10 years, who is Kluber's nephew. Kluber was temporarily staying with his nephew, according to the report. The victim told officers she was alone in the basement with Kluber who began making unwanted advances. She told him to stop, he refused, and forced himself on her, the report said.

Kluber was taken into custody June 7 after officers investigated the incident. He was transported to the Kane County Correctional Facility. He must post a $25,000 bond (10 percent of the bail amount) to be released pending trial.

Kluber has a criminal history that includes a 1987 criminal sexual abuse case and a 1998 criminal sexual abuse with a weapon. He was required to register as a sex offender due to convictions in those cases, but police said he is no longer required to do so. In 2010, Kluber was charged with presence in a school zone by a child sex offender.

Kluber's next court appearance is June 13 in front of Judge Tim Sheldon.
