Officials Tell Parents 'No Threat' After Bullet Found in St. Charles East Locker Room

The facility is shared with Norris Recreatonal Center and authorities have no way of knowing who brought in the bullet.

St. Charles police were called to St. Charles East High School on Thursday afternoon after a student discovered a single bullet in a locker room the school shares with the Norris Recreational Center.

The shared facility is used by both the students and the public, police said in a release issued Thursday afternoon. Police said the student immediately turned the bullet over to a staff member.

There are no current threats or any indications of a threat, according to police, who found nothing during a thorough search of the area. Still, the department said there were extra patrols in the area during dismissal.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and asked that anyone with information about the incident  to call the St. Charles Police Department at 630-377-4435.

The incident prompted an email to parents from East Principal Charlie Kyle at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, according to St. Charles Community Unit School District 303.

“This afternoon, one of our students found a small caliber round of ammunition in a changing area at the Norris Pool. Because we take any incident such as this seriously, East High School personnel and the St. Charles Police immediately began investigating and determined there was no apparent threat to the students nor staff of our school,” Kyle wrote. “This discovery was made in an area of the Norris Pool that is accessible to both East students and those who use the Norris Recreational Center.

“As a precaution, the St. Charles Police Department provided additional presence during our dismissal, which took place without incident,” his email continued. “If you have any information about this situation, please contact the St. Charles Police or East High School administration. Classes will be held at St. Charles East as scheduled on Friday.”
