Severe Thunderstorm Warning in Effect Until 10:30 PM Wednesday; Tornado Watch Until 1 AM Thursday

The National Weather Service says the storm could bring 1 to 3 inches of rain.

There's a Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect until 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A Tornado Watch is in effect until 1 a.m. Thursday. That means conditions are ripe for a tornado in Kane County.

Doppler radar shows a line of severe thunderstorms "capable of producing winds up to 60 mph," the National Weather Service—Chicago reports.

"THESE STORMS WERE LOCATED ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM 6 MILES SOUTHEAST OF HARVARD TO LAKEWOOD TO HAMPSHIRE TO MAPLE PARK ... MOVING EAST AT 40 MPH. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE NEAR WOODSTOCK, LAKEWOOD, HUNTLEY AND ELBURN AROUND 10:10 PM.

"LAKE IN THE HILLS...GILBERTS AND BULL VALLEY AROUND 10:15 PM. WEST DUNDEE ... SLEEPY HOLLOW AND ALGONQUIN AROUND 10:20 PM. ELGIN AROUND 10:25 PM CDT.

"SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCE DAMAGING WIND IN EXCESS OF 60 MILES PER HOUR .. .LARGE HAIL ... DEADLY LIGHTNING ... AND VERY HEAVY RAIN.

"FOR YOUR PROTECTION MOVE TO AN INTERIOR ROOM ON THE LOWEST FLOOR OF YOUR HOME OR BUSINESS. HEAVY RAINS FLOOD ROADS QUICKLY SO DO NOT DRIVE INTO AREAS WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROAD.
