Several Suburban Towns Make Top 50 Safest Cities List

Do you think Geneva should have made this list?

While Geneva did not make a recent list ranking the top 50 safest cities in Illinois, nearby Campton Hills did, according to a Safewise.com report

The top 50 safest cities list by Safewise.com used the recent FBI Crime Report along with its own independent research to compile its list. To make the list, a city had to have a population of over 5,000 as of 2012, according to a Safewise.com report.

"We analyze the number of violent crimes (aggravated assault, forcible rape, murder, robbery) and property crimes (arson, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft) and then calculate the chance of these crimes happening out of 1,000 in order to level the playing field for the different populations of each city," according to the SafeWise Report.

Campton Hills was listed as the 4th safest town in Illinois with .53 violent crimes happening per 1,000 and 3.91 property crimes happening per 1,000, according to Safewise.com.

"Campton Hills’ police department clearly takes security seriously," according to the Safewise.com report. "You can see this with their great safety programs like Vacation Check to watch homes while families are away, Premise Alert designed to help disabled residents in case of an emergency, and Lock It or Risk Losing It, which encourages residents to always lock their cars and homes to prevent theft."
Here is a look at the top ten safest cities, according to the Safewise.com report:
  1. Round Lake Park
  2. Lake Forest
  3. Western Springs
  4. Campton Hills
  5. Inverness
  6. Gilberts
  7. Chester
  8. Pickneyville
  9. Winfield
  10. Waterloo

the list is somewhat deceiving because Campton Hills residents shop on Randal Road which is St. Charles or Geneva, many more reported crimes will be along that stretch. Shoplifting etc.
