Elburn Man Dies In Single-Car Crash Monday Night

A vehicle went off the road and caught on fire in Kaneville Township. Here's what we know.

A 42-year-old Elburn man is dead after his car veered off the road and caught on fire on Monday, police said.

Amien Swift was the sole occupant of the SUV in the crash, which occurred in unincorporated Kaneville Township. Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the incident at about 8:20 p.m. Monday, according to a press release.

Swift, of the 2S200 block of Route 47, was driving a 2001 Toyota SUV east on Lasher Road. He failed to navigate a curve in that roadway, according to an initial investigation.

The vehicle left the road on the south side of Lasher, about a quarter-mile west of Harter Road. The vehicle rolled several times before coming to a rest on its top.

At some point, the vehicle caught on fire, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Swift was not able to get out of the vehicle and died at the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash. As of Monday evening, the Sheriff’s Office was not able to rule out if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
