REPORTS: Man From Police Chase Charged in Bank Robbery

The Elburn resident who led police on a chase more than 100 miles is now formally charged in a Friday holdup, according to media reports.

David Ziesel was charged with aggravated bank robbery in U.S. District Court in Indiana on Monday, the Kane County Chronicle reports.

Investigators say Ziesel went into the LaPorte Savings Bank at about 2 p.m. on Friday and demanded money, according to the Chicago Tribune. Ziesel then fled the scene, but not before hitting the marked vehicle of an off-duty LaPorte County, IN, sheriff's deputy.

Ziesel rode on highways into Illinois until he got off on Route 31 from I-88, police said. He tried to elude police through the North Aurora and Batavia area, but was .

Ziesel could get up to 25 years in prison for the bank robbery and putting people's lives in jeopardy, the Chronicle's story said.

Kane County State's Attorney's Office officials on Friday announced that they had charged Ziesel with aggravated fleeting and attempting to elude a police officer, as well as resisting a peace officer. More charges are expected in Indiana.

During the police chase, Ziesel threw the robbery money out of his getaway vehicle, a tan Chevy Suburban SUV. Police warned residents that any found money along I-94 in LaPorte County is bank property, the Tribune's story said.

Ziesel is expected in court again today, Wednesday, April 25.
