The Batavia Police Department awaits a report from the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team on the crash this week. The team assists with crash investigations like this one, which took place at 11:52 p.m. Nov. 14 on Randall Road south of Mill Creek.

The male driver of one of the vehicles involved was still in critical condition as of Nov. 16 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. Police hoped to get an update from a doctor on the man's condition soon.

The man's wife was in the front passenger seat of their vehicle during the crash, according to police. She was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released from a local hospital.

The cause of the crash has not been determined. What police did say was that Batavia resident Amy Holtorf, 43, was traveling northbound on Randall Road when her minivan struck the couple's crossover SUV, which was traveling southbound. Holtorf died at the scene.

Police observed heavy front-end damage to both vehicles involved, but Batavia Detective Kevin Bretz stopped short of saying it was a full head-on collision.

The county accident reconstruction team determines the type of collision, Bretz said.
