Police Standoff Ends With Arrest in St. Charles

The Kane County SWAT team was called to the incident in St. Charles. The Saturday standoff lasted four hours.

A standoff that began on Saturday when a male threatened to shoot his father finally came to a close after four hours in St. Charles.

The barricade situation unfolded at about 4:16 p.m. at a townhome in the 100 block of Whittington Course, police said. Officers were called for a domestic disturbance report and were notified while on their way of the male's threat against his father.

The man’s name was not released Saturday because formal charges had not been made yet, police said.

Officers arrived to find the parents outside the home and that the male had barricaded himself in the basement of the home. Because of the reported threats, police established a perimeter and requested assistance from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Unit.

Authorities evacuated an adjacent townhome as a precaution. While access to the rest of the townhomes was restricted during the standoff, no other evacuations occurred.

The Kane County SWAT team arrived and negotiations began, police said. The male agreed to leave the home after several hours, when he was taken into custody and transported to Delnor Hospital by the St. Charles Fire Department.

No one was injured and no hostages were taken during the standoff, which ended at 8:05 p.m., according to police. The area was opened back up shortly thereafter.

An investigation continues into what prompted the domestic disturbance.
