Police Reports: Unusual Accident at Gas Station Car Wash

Driver says brakes went out, causing Ford F150 to strike a sign and a tree.

There was a small disagreement regarding the cause of a one-vehicle accident at a car wash on East State Street, according to Geneva police reports.

The front and driver’s side of a Ford F150 sustained more than $1,500 damage after the driver claimed the brakes went out after putting his car through a car wash.

Ubaldo Arriaga, 36, of Geneva told police he was exiting the car wash at the Fuller’s station where he works, at 1122 East State St., around 9:27 a.m. June 28, when the brakes went out.

Arriaga said he lost control of the vehicle, striking a business sign and then a tree.

A witness whose vehicle was in a car in the wash directly following Arriaga’s F150 told police the F150 accelerated rapidly out of the car wash. “A check of the vehicle’s brake pedal was conducted, and there was no indication of brake failure,” reports said.
