Police Reports: The Last (We Hope) Scrooge-Like Crime in Geneva

Another cut cord on the Christmas lights.

We've had our share of holiday petty meanness this year. And here's hoping, as the new year approaches, that it's the last we find in Geneva police reports this season.

In the latest Bad Santa event, someone cut a strand of white outdoor Christmas lights in the front yard of a residence in the 2600 block of Cedar Avenue sometime prior to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16, reports said. The value of the lights was estimated at $8.99.

Unless we missed one somewhere, this is the third cord-cutting reported to Geneva police this season.

The first was sometime between Nov. 24 and 25, when someone  at a home in the 1400 block of Fargo Boulevard. Police later discovered that  on the same night.

Then someone in front of a residence in the 2200 block of Kings Court sometime between Dec. 2 and Dec. 11.

Rounding out the holiday mischief were : a planter from the Cocoa Bean and a 24-inch Christmas wreath from Artemesia, both in late November.

And of course, we cannot tell a lie, someone chopped down a 10-foot pine tree from the campus of Geneva Middle School North on Dec. 21. Whether that one was a Christmas crime, well, we'll leave it for you to decide.
