Police Reports Reveal Details of Jan. 31 Crash on Fabyan Parkway
Three injured, road closed while police and emergency personnel pull passengers from vehicles, taken to Delnor Hospital.
On Jan. 31, Geneva Patch reported on the then-breaking-news story of an accident with injuries that stopped traffic near Raddant Road.
The recently-released police report indicates the crash was caused when a car stalled and was struck from behind.
Reports said a Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by Jesus Garcia, 23, of Batavia “became disabled while he was westbound on East Fabyan Parkway” and stopped at the traffic signal at North Raddant Road. The Eclipse was in the southernmost through-lane about 40 feet from the stop line of the intersection and contained a passenger, J. Refugio Garcia, 48, of Batavia.

“Upon realizing his vehicle was not able to move, he activated his emergency flashers and exited his vehicle to put up the hood,” the report said. “It should be noted that a witness (Sgt. W. Glisson of the Kane County Forest Preserve police) advised that (Garcia) did not have his headlights or emergency flashers on.”
The flashers were on when Geneva police arrived, reports said.

Garcia returned to the Eclipse and called his cousin for help. The Eclipse was then struck from behind by a Ford Expedition driven by Marcos Castillo D’Valle, 46, of Aurora. D’Valle “advised he did not see unit one (the Eclipse) coming,” the report said.
The collision sent the Eclipse into the intersection about 15 feet from the left-turn lane for eastbound Fabyan Parkway traffic. The Expedition landed on its roof in the intersection.
D’Valle “had to be extracted from his vehicle by paramedics" and transported to Delnor Hospital, reports said.
Garcia and his passenger also were transported to Delnor Hospital.
D’Valle was issued a warning ticket for driving with an expired registration, reports said.
