Other Robberies

The Tri-Cities area had a string of armed robberies late last year and a couple this year.

On April 12, a woman was apartment complex just west of the Fox River. The suspect fled southbound on the bike trail.

A similar but separate robbery occurred on March 26 in Batavia's Clark Island area. A juvenile was approached by a man in a hooded sweatshirt with an open knife. The man took $20 and a skateboard from the child and escaped via footbridge.

A Batavia man accused of holding up Subway restaurants in Batavia and North Aurora, as well as a St. Charles motel, admitted to robbing an Elgin bank in January, according to court records.

Douglas Kelley, 27, wore a ski hat and sunglasses when he walked into a Batavia Subway with a pellet gun on Nov. 23 and took about $600, prosecutors allege. Five days later, he carried a similar type gun into a Subway in North Aurora and threatened a clerk into handing over money, court records show.

Then, on Dec. 29, Kelley used a toy pistol that “closely resembled a true firearm” to take about $800 from the Super 8 motel in St. Charles, the records state.
