Police Reports: 'Hippy Backpack' Stolen, and Other Blotter Items

It's killer B's in the blotter this week. Here's the roundup of miscellaneous BBs, breaks and burglaries.

A reader chided me for using "Miscellaneous Mischief" in headlines for stories that round out the "also rans" from the Geneva police reports. The argument was a good one: Some of the items are fairly serious, and not "mischief." The reader said to just call 'em what they are—vandalism, car burglaries or criminal damage to property.

Presented here are three of those miscellaneous entries, two under the "criminal damage" category and one car burglary.

Vehicle Burglary—Someone took a backpack and its contents from the front passenger seat of a Ford Windstar in a parking lot in the 300 block of Wheeler Drive sometime between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. May 14, Geneva police reports said. The small backpack is described as a “hippy backpack" and contained a wallet, a credit card, insurance cards and about $100 in cash.

Criminal Damage to Property Under $300—Someone smashed the driver’s-side window of  a Pontiac Grand Prix parked in the 200 block of Spring Street sometime between 5:30 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. May 16, reports said. The Grand Prix was parked and unattended on the south side of the street.

Criminal Damage to Property Under $300—Someone shot a BB into the exterior garage window of a home in the 2000 block of Eldorado Drive sometime before 7:30 p.m. May 20, Geneva police reports said.  The window was cracked “from the top to the bottom” with a hole near the base of the window that still contained the BB, reports said. The damage was estimated at $100.
