Police Report Mailbox-Damage Spree in Williamsburg Area

The incidents take place roughly between Aug. 7 and Aug. 14, 2013.

Geneva police reported a number of incidents they believe could be related in which mailboxes were removed from their posts on the West Side of town in the area of Williamsburg Elementary School.

The incidents took place roughly between Aug. 7 and Aug. 14, 2013, and include but are not limited to the following:

  • Someone broke a wooden mailbox found in the 1900 block of Williamsburg Avenue at around 2:30 a.m. Aug. 14, reports said. The mailbox had been removed from its post in the 100 block of Brookfield Lane.
  • Someone removed a black mailbox from its post in the 2000 block of Williamsburg Avenue sometime between 10 p.m. Aug. 13 and 2:45 a.m. Aug. 14, reports said. The value of repair was estimated at $50.
  • Someone smashed a cast iron mailbox, using an unknown object, in the 2100 block of Fargo Boulevard sometime between 9 p.m. Aug. 7 and 8 a.m. Aug. 10, reports said. The cost to repair the damage was estimated at $100.
  • Someone damaged a mailbox post in front of a residence in the 100 block of North Greenfield Lane, discovered by police during a canvass of the neighborhood. When officers made contact with the resident via telephone, he said he was unaware of the damage to the mailbox and did not wish to exit the residence to speak with police. He was unable to provide a damage estimate.
  • Someone appeared to have pried off the mailbox from the top post in the 300 block of Cape Way sometime around 2 a.m. Aug. 14, reports said. The mailbox was valued at around $80.
