Police Make Arrest for Scrap Metal Theft—a Crime on the Rise
Several cases of scrap-metal theft have recently been recorded in St. Charles and Geneva. Now an arrest has been made for the crime.
Geneva police arrested Ivan Gonzalez, 32, of Aurora around 9:31 a.m. March 1 on charges of theft under $300 for taking about 1,000 pounds of scrap metal from Allied Rivet, 1172 Commerce Dr. in Geneva.
Police determined that there was also a warrant out for Gonzalez' arrest issued by the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office for failure to pay a fine and failure to appear for a violation of driving without a license or seat belt.
On Feb. 13, an employee exiting from the southwest side of the business told police he saw a vehicle pulling a white, open-style trailer leaving the access drive and saw pieces of scrap metal on the ground and inside the trailer.
