POLICE: Chicago Man Accused of Stabbing Co-Worker in Batavia

The following arrest information was supplied by the Batavia Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A 54-year-old Chicago man faces an attempted murder charge after he allegedly stabbed his co-worker this morning in Batavia, police said.

Calvin M. Hayes, of the 300 block of North Pine Street in Chicago, reportedly stabbed Kendall C. McDonald, 45, of Maywood, according to a press release.

The stabbing incident occurred in a Suncast Corporation parking lot, 701 N. Kirk Road. Officers were dispatched to the scene at 6:50 a.m., the press release said.

The stabbing reportedly occurred as a result of a verbal argument that turned physical after their work shifts ended. McDonald received medical assistance at the scene and was sent to an area hospital for treatment, police said.

Batavia Police detectives contacted the Kane County State's Attorney's Office and received authorization for the following charges:

  • One count of First Degree Attempted Murder—Probability of Death
  • One count of Aggravated Battery—Great Bodily Harm
  • One count of Aggravated Battery—Deadly Weapon

The murder charge is a Class X felony. The aggravated battery charges are Class 3 felonies.
