The charges came after a 24-year-old woman reported an assault in a dorm room at the Q Center.

A 24-year-old Australian man has been charged with multiple felony counts after he assaulted a woman in a Q Center dorm room, St. Charles police announced in a Thursday afternoon release.

Jefry Sutjito, of Unit 709/270 King St., Melbourne, Australia, formally has been charged with two counts of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony; attempted criminal sexual assault, a Class 2 felony; and criminal sexual abuse, a Class 4 felony.

St. Charles police were called to the Q Center about 10:15 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, on a sexual assault dispatch, a release states. Officers interviewed the 22-year-old female victim, other witnesses, and the suspect. The victim and the suspect were both participating in a four-week training class.

Sutjito was taken into custody about 3:30 p.m., according to the release, which states that police then contacted the Priority Prosecution Unit of the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office. A 72-hour investigative hold was placed on Sutjito, and he was transported to the Kane County Correctional Facility to be held.

Charges were authorized Wednesday, and Sutjito was booked, processed and transported back to the Kane County Correctional Facility to await court hearing Thursday. Although Sutjito lives in Australia, he is actually a citizen of Indonesia. Notification was made to the Indonesian consulate that he was in custody.

Sutjito’s bail was set at $500,000, and he was required to surrender his passport.

His next court date is set for Oct. 11.
