BURR RIDGE—Man Accused of Murdering Mom Faces Dept. of Homeland Security Investigation—Michael Bassaly of Downers Grove is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his mother. He told a 911 dispatcher that he shot her in the head, according to prosecutors.


WHEATON—Wheaton Man Killed by Train Thursday—The man’s body was found near the Wheaton College campus early Thursday morning, police said.

NAPERVILLE—Burglars Hit Naperville Homes While Owners Slept: Police—Police said thieves targeted a number of residences during the overnight hours on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

ELMHURST—York High Prankster Distributes Phony Story About 'Abducted Student’—District 205 administrators are not amused.

LA GRANGE—
Business Owners Accuse Each Other of Threats, Vandalism—The owners of vintage home decor shops Painted Rubbish and Nest Vintage Modern in La Grange were advised to stop communicating with each other, according to police.

ELMHURST—
Elmhurst Woman Charged With Dealing Drugs Near Middle School—Police say it’s not the first drug-dealing arrest for 45-year-old Angela Keane.

LEMONT—Police: Man Dead After Jumping From I-355 Bridge in Lemont—A man was pronounced dead around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday near the Des Plaines River and Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal, police said.

GLEN ELLYN—
Major Fire at Marston and Maple Lane— All occupants were safely evacuated, but the home and attached garage were heavily damaged.

GENEVA—
Jenny McCarthy's Sister, Celebrities Cited for Public Intoxication in Geneva—A "Dancing With the Stars" winner, a professional dancer, a Hollywood actor/writer/producer and the sister of Genevan Jenny McCarthy among the group cited at Third and State streets.

BATAVIA—
Residents Protest $13 Million Athletics Field Plan—With the economy still on the ropes, homeowners are saying it’s not the right time for bells an whistles.

HINSDALE—
$48 Million Adventist Cancer Institute Planned for Hinsdale—The facility’s site plan and exterior appearance got the unanimous support of the Hinsdale Zoning and Public Safety Committee last week.

WOODRIDGE—
350K Square Foot Facility Breaking Ground Soon in Woodridge—Orbus Exhibit & Display Group, a leading supplier of display, exhibit and event solutions, will bring about 300 jobs to Woodridge after moving from Bolingbrook and Lisle.

DOWNERS GROVE—Downers Grove CPA Announces Run for State Treasurer—DuPage County Auditor Bob Grogan announced his candidacy Tuesday afternoon at the Du Quoin State Fair.

DARIEN—
