The annual Turkey Testicle Festival is significant — not just for its "interesting" cuisine, but also because it’s a fundraiser to to help veterans and active duty personnel in the armed forces. So, it was quite a disappointment when the giant Testicle Festival sign in front Elmhurst American Legion was stolen.

Handicapped Parking Placard Predicament

Kimberly Marie Rally-Saunders, 47, of the 1200 block of Roosevelt Road, Wheaton, was charged at 10:46 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013 at 111 N. County Farm Road with possession of a stolen handicapped placard, and unlawfully parking in a handicapped zone. She posted bail and was released.

Car Burglar Smells Marvelous

Be on the lookout, or perhaps the “smellout,” for the criminal mastermind who struck several vehicles Oct. 20 and 21 in Batavia. Among the items taken were a cell phone, wallet, money … and cologne. If the reports could just say what brand, we might catch the criminal.

Stop Backing into the Blazer

Jesus Marcelo Fabian-Chavez, 20, of the 1600 block of Indiana Street, was cited at 11:29 p.m. on the 1500 block of Indiana Street with no driver’s license, no insurance, and improper backing. Police said they were called to the scene on a report of a minivan having difficulty parking and had backed into another vehicle multiple times. Police said they could not detect any new damage to either the minivan or the Chevrolet Blazer parked behind the minivan. He posted a $200 cash bond and a $50 booking fee and was released pending a Dec. 19, 2013 court appearance.

Thief Full of Hot Air?

Now there’s something you don’t see every day. Someone took a portable air compressor valued at $150 from an unsecured garage in the 300 block of Vonder Lane between 10 p.m. Oct. 9 and 8 a.m. Oct. 12, reports said. The the thief must have wanted the portable air compressor pretty badly because it was positioned next to the overhead door of the garage.

A blow-up Halloween decoration was damaged in the 1800 block of Nottingham Lane.

Booze, Run - and Deja Vu for Gas Station

Three people stole a case of beer from Speedway gas station, 10250 Lemont Road, at 2:53 a.m Oct. 1. The next morning, at 9:41 a.m., three people took a case of Coors Light from the same gas station. It was not reported whether the thieves were the same in both incidents.

Naperville Woman, 82, Nabbed in Doll Theft

An elderly Naperville woman faces two counts of misdemeanor theft after she was seen grabbing three antique dolls and an antique teddy bear during a collectible toy and doll show Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013. Ellen Alex Raftis, 82, of the 300 block of Westbrook Circle, Naperville, was charged at 4:35 p.m. at the Kane County Fairgrounds, 525 S. Randall Road, with two counts of misdemeanor theft after she was seen taking three antique dolls and a teddy bear from separate vendors while making her way through the Antique-Collectible Toy and Doll Show that was under way. Two vendors agreed not to press charges after their items were returned. But two other vendors pressed charges for the theft of one doll priced at $995 and another valued at $395.

HINSDALE

Cabbie Gets Stiffed, Then Hit

David A. Gibbs, 39, of the 700 block of East 1st Street, Hinsdale, was charged with battery and theft, police said, after he hit a cab driver’s arm while refusing to pay his fare at 12:07 a.m. Oct. 23 on the block where Gibbs lives. Police say Gibbs was intoxicated and did not have enough money to cover the ride. After being charged, he was released to appear in court.
