North Aurora, Other Area Establishments Caught Selling Alcohol to Minors

Here's a list of businesses that sold or served alcohol to underage patrons, according to the Illinois Liquor Control Commission.

Four shops and restaurants in North Aurora were among those that sold or served alcohol to minors during compliance checks, a state agency announced Wednesday.

In August the Illinois Liquor Control Commission conducted compliance checks around the state and visited 177 businesses licensed to sell liquor. The teams randomly visit liquor stores, restaurants and bars in communities around the state to check for ongoing compliance with state laws mandating that no liquor is sold to minors under the age of 21.

They cited 51 licensees for violations of liquor control laws.

Of the 12 licensees checked in the North Aurora-Aurora area, seven sold alcohol to Liquor Commission underage participants. Those licensees were:

North Aurora

  • Oak Street Restaurant, 945 Oak St.
  • 7-Eleven, 2 S. Lincolnway St.
  • Tecalitan Restaurant, 200 E. Butterfield Rd.
  • Jay’s Wine & Liquors, 186 Butterfield Rd.

Aurora

  • JJ’s Prime Time Pub, 1555 Butterfield Rd.
  • El Burrito Loco, 880 N. Farnsworth (Aurora)
  • Taqueria El Brasero, 944 N. Farnsworth

Other Chicago-area towns that had businesses that sold alcohol to minors include Villa Park (seven of 12 checked), Melrose Park (eight of 12 checked) and Berwyn (eight of 12 checked).

In all, 71 percent of the licensees visited complied with Illinois liquor laws and refused to serve underage customers.

This report is a result of ongoing undercover and cooperative law enforcement operations conducted by state Liquor Control Commission agents and local law enforcement officials and volunteers from high schools and colleges.

Liquor Control Commission agents also work with local and state law enforcement agents to focus on communities with a high incidence of underage liquor sales.
