More Draining Grates Taken From the Rear of Randall Road Stores

Scrap metal was not mentioned in the reports, but was in a previous theft.

It's classified as a routine theft under $500, but it's one of those crimes that makes you go, "huh," in part because it's hard to believe it happened once, let alone twice.

Previously, Geneva Police Department reports indicated that someone took located outside the loading dock of Best Buy, 1876 S. Randall Road. That happened sometime between 5 p.m. Oct. 27 and 5 p.m. Oct. 28, reports said.

Those grates were 14 by 18 inches, weighed about 25 pounds and had an estimated scrap value of $40, reports said.

Now reports show that someone took two sewer grates from the alley behind PetSmart sometime prior to noon Nov. 19. A porter of Midwest Maintenance, who is contracted by Inland Property Commercial Development, arrived at Randall Square around 5 a.m. Nov. 19 and noticed the sewer grates were missing at around lunchtime.

The second report doesn't estimate the cost of the sewer grates or mention their scrap metal value, but scrap metal theft is one of those crimes that's , here and elsewhere.
