More Bah Humbug Crime for the Holiday Season

Someone should have told Perry Como or The Carpenters that the song wasn't referring to theft or criminal damage to property. Here's a roundup of holiday-related crimes from the Geneva police blotter.

Theft Under $500—Someone took a steel decorative urn gate and 2-foot-tall copper lantern from 610 Home, 610 South First St., sometime between 7 p.m. Nov. 25 and 8 a.m. Nov. 26, Geneva police reports said. The items were located outside and displayed near the entrance to the store. The estimated value of the urn gate is $100, and the lantern is valued at $85.

Criminal Damage to Property Under $300—Someone smashed 21 plastic lighted candy cane lawn ornaments in front of a home in the 1200 block of Herrington Road sometime around 10 p.m. Nov. 26, police reports said. The resident told police she heard a loud noise that sounded like it came from outside her residence. The ornaments were valued at $63. 

Criminal Damage to Property—Someone cut a string of Christmas lights strung on an evergreen tree on the southwest side of a residence in the 1200 block of Shoop Drive sometime between 11 p.m. Nov. 28 and 5 p.m. Nov. 29, reports said. The estimated value of the lights is $15.
