Live-In Couple's Argument Leads to Domestic Battery Charges Leveled at Each Other

The following information was supplied by the Geneva Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A Geneva couple's argument escalated into physical violence and resulted in domestic battery charges filed against each other.

Geneva police arrested Jonathon Allerton, 25, of Geneva and Cristina Valerio, 27, of Geneva on identical charges of domestic battery—bodily harm to a family member and insulting/provoking contact—after an incident around 4:26 a.m. July 3 in the 200 block of North First Street, reports said.

The 16th Judicial Circuit Court complaint says Allerton “knowingly and without justification … grabbed (Valerio) by the wrists and pushed a television onto her foot, causing injury.” He also “pushed, grabbed and knocked over” Valerio.

The 16th Circuit complaint against Valerio says she “bit and scratched (Allerton) on the arm and neck.” Both were interviewed separately by police and have conflicting accounts of the incident.

Allerton told police that he and his live-in girlfriend were having a verbal argument when she struck him, hit him on the face with an open hand and began to scratch his neck and face. Allerton said he “grabbed ahold of her wrist … and she bit him on the arm.” She bit him two more times on the arm, leaving three marks.

Valerio told police that, after the verbal argument, Allerton struck her, pushed her, then grabbed ahold of her wrist while squeezing and threw her to the ground. He “then threw a container of glue and struck (Valerio) on the upper thigh.”

He also “pushed a television over, which landed on (her) foot, causing injury to her ankle.” No court date is listed on the complaint but the court location is the Kane County Branch Court, 530 S. Randall Road, St. Charles.
