In Courts: Alleged Suicide Driver, Kane Coroner and Attempted Murder Case in Kane Courts This Week

Kane and DuPage County courtrooms include the "usual suspects," from a fatal hit-and-run case to a man allegedly responsible for a Metra explosion.

Alleged suicide driver George Smith is back in court this week after falling on his way to court in late April. Smith, 81, of St. Charles is accused of intentionally driving his SUV into oncoming traffic on West State Street in an August suicide attempt that instead injured Mark Rein of Geneva.

Attempted murder defendant , Coroner Chuck West and the group of St. Charles parents suing the School District over its merger plan are back in court this week. Those are on the Kane County dockets.

DuPage County courtrooms include a former aldermanic candidate charged with domestic battery and a man accused of causing a Metra station explosion.

KANE

Geneva—A judge is supposed to rule May 12 on 's latest request to have the official misconduct charges against him thrown out.

Geneva—, the man accused of causing State Street wreck in failed suicide attempt, is back in court on May 12 for a status hearing. 

St. Charles—The by a parents' group is now scheduled for a hearing later this month in federal court. The group has re-filed its complaint over the school merger plan, and has renewed its push to have the case sent back to Kane County.

DUPAGE COUNTY

Downers Grove—, the man charged with pretending to be a doctor and treating people, is scheduled for status hearing on May 12

Downers Grove—(theft from a high school) is scheduled for a status hearing on May 10.

Elmhurst—The father-son duo charged with battery in a struggle with police in a bar are scheduled for hearings on May 9. The father, , recently had an additional charge of resisting a police officer filed against him. 

Elmhurst—(fatal hit-and-run) scheduled to appear for hearing on May 10. Will advise on story possibility.

Hinsdale—
(Metra station explosion) is now scheduled for a May 12 hearing in federal court in Chicago to ask a judge for a new attorney. Zajac was recently sentenced to 35 years in prison for a similar incident in Utah, but has an appeal pending in that case.

Naperville—Downtown squatter 's civil lawsuit is scheduled for a status hearing on May 9.

Wheaton—(domestic battery) returns to court May 3 for a status hearing. This was a case against a then Wheaton City Council candidate who runs a restaurant in Wheaton and is president of the board of directors for the Downtown Wheaton Association.
