Illegal-Lane-Change Charge Follows 3-Car Accident With Injuries on West State

The following information was supplied by the Geneva Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A tricky lane change in downtown Geneva led to charges for a Hoffman Estates driver involved in a three-car accident April 22.

The front of a Hyundai Elantra driven by Onduli Kwak, 22, of Hoffman Estates collided with the driver’s side of a Lexus RX300 driven by Cassidy Burk, 26, of Geneva and a Honda S2000 driven by Kari VanDyke, 39, of St. Charles around 4:20 p.m. April 22, in the 200 block of West State Street about 15 feet west of Second Street, Geneva police reports said.

VanDyke’s S2000 was stopped in traffic on the inside lane facing west when Kwak tried to make a lane change around it from the inside lane to the outside lane.

Kwak’s Elantra struck Burk’s RX300, which was travelling west on the outside lane. The collision caused the Elantra to strike VanDyke’s S2000, reports said.

Kwak was charged with making an illegal lane change and has a court date of May 15, according to reports. Tows were necessary, and more than $1,500 damage was done to any one vehicle.
