Here Comes the Snow—Dangerous Conditions, Power Wires Catch Fire at Route 38 and Route 47
At 4 p.m., scanners already are reporting several accidents and at least one potential power outage.
The snow is coming down, as promised.
The National Weather Service predicted 3 to 6 inches of snow, and it looks right now that the storm has that potential.

Power lines appeared to catch fire near the southwest corner of the intersection of Route 38 and Route 47. A county officer saw a bright flash of blue light, followed by the fire, scanner reports said.
The NWS-Chicago has issued a short-term forecast that's not good news for commuters.

"A PERIOD OF MODERATE TO OCCASIONALLY HEAVY WET SNOW CAN BE EXPECTED ALONG AND NORTH OF THE INTERSTATE 88 CORRIDOR DURING THE VERY LATE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING HOURS ... WITH SNOWFALL RATES OF AN INCH PER HOUR OR GREATER AND EVEN SOME THUNDER SNOW POSSIBLE," the report said.
"THIS WILL REDUCE VISIBILITY TO LESS THAN A HALF MILE AT TIMES...AND WILL RESULT IN SEVERAL INCHES OF ACCUMULATION OF WET SNOW DURING THE EVENING COMMUTE."
