Someone made off with $6,150 in jewelry from a resident’s home in early August, according to a St. Charles police report.
A 71-year-old resident of the 400 block of Wing Lane reported at 11:39 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, that the theft occurred between Aug. 2 and Aug. 8. There was no explanation for the delay in reporting the theft.
That time period coincides with a string of Batavia home burglaries, although the targets of the Batavia burglaries primarily were electronics.Four persons later were arrested and charged in connection with those burglaries.
According to the St. Charles report, the victim said someone entered her home and took five gold rings mounted with various stones — diamonds, topaz, amethyst, and garnet — as well as other jewelry — from atop her dresser. The total value of the rings was estimated at $6,150.
The victim reported that some costume jewelry and expensive bracelets also were taken, and police asked her fill out a list of the other missing jewelry and return the list to police.
In Geneva, 32 rings were reported stolen from Pax Vobiscum, a store on South Third Street, on Aug. 22.
