The following information was supplied by the Geneva Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A Batavia teenager is facing serious cannabis charges after he was caught leaving railroad property with a mesh sack full of harvested marijuana.

Geneva police arrested Devin Alsip, 17, of Batavia on charges of cannabis delivery between 30 and 500 grams, cannabis possession and unlawful trespass to railroad property after an incident around around 7:25 p.m. Aug. 28 in the 500 block of South Randall Road, reports said.

Around 7:30 p.m. Aug. 28, officers responded to a report of a lost bicycle on Randall Road.

“Upon arrival, I located the bicycle on the side of the road, and the owner (Alsip, Devin M.) walked up to the bike from the grassy slope on the west side of the bridge," reports said.

"Alsip had an orange and blue, cloth and mesh sack over his shoulder. I asked Alsip what was in the bag and he initially stated, ‘clothes.’ I have prior knowledge of marijuana that grows wild in that area and asked Alsip if he had been picking the marijuana."

The officer again asked Alsip again what was in the bag, and his reply is whited out of the police report. Officers located a knife and in the bag discovered "green, leafy plants having an odor similar to cannabis.”

The victim listed in the report is the Union Pacific Railroad, 301 W. Lake St., Northlake, IL 60164.

Alsip has a court date of Sept. 14.
