Geneva Parent Confronts Son Over Bong; Son Charged With Domestic Battery

The following information was supplied by the Geneva Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Geneva police arrested Ryan Wheatley, 18, of Geneva on charges of domestic battery insulting or provoking contact, criminal damage to property, possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal possession of alcohol by a minor after an incident at around 5:30 p.m. March 8 at a residence in the 2200 block of Kings Court, reports said.

Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at about 6:34 p.m. March 8, when relatives said Wheatley was “out of control,” according to the synopsis sheet.

According to reports, the complainant walked into his son’s bedroom and found a water bong sitting by the dresser. The parent confiscated the equipment, and the two were later involved in a verbal dispute.

Wheatley did not believe his parents had a right to take away his property, reports said, so he hid a female relative’s car keys until she relinquished possession of the bong. The relative entered the bedroom and asked for return of the property, at which time Wheatley “grabbed her by the shoulders and pushed her out of his bedroom,” reports said.

The father returned from work and confronted Wheatley about his behavior.

Wheatley was taken to the Kane County jail at 7:43 a.m. March 9, reports said.
