Geneva Is Surrounded by West Nile Virus
The news of WNV in Elgin mosquitoes follows closely to the announcement that birds with the disease were found in Batavia and Aurora.
The Kane County Health Department said Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, that a batch of mosquitoes caught in a trap in Elgin have tested positive for West Nile virus.
According to a Health Department release, this was the second time this season that a trap in northern Kane County had yielded positive results of the virus in mosquitoes. The first incident was in July in Algonquin.
On Aug. 13, the Health Department noted that three birds tested positive for West Nile Virus. Two of the birds were collected in locations in unincorporated Batavia and another was collected within the city of Aurora.
