Geneva History Center Art Walk and More—5 Things You Should Know for Tuesday, Aug. 23

Also, pay attention when driving through St. Charles in the next few weeks.

Enjoy an art walk with the Geneva History Center tonight and learn more about the abundance of public art in the area. 

Also, if you like cake, today's national holiday will be a day for you to eat up. 

Here are five things going on Tuesday, Aug. 23:

1. Geneva History Museum Educator Margaret Selakovich will conduct a  from 7 to 8:30 p.m. 
The tour starts from the Geneva History Center, 113 S. Third St., Geneva.

Highlights will include the newest public art sculpture, “The Rainman,” the new Lincoln Highway mural and more. Participants will also hear the stories behind the artists and their works. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for Geneva History Center members and students. 2.  will hold its last Tuesday at the Movies for the summer on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Randall 15 Theater in Batavia. The church will provide adult supervision during an elementary-age-appropriate movie. Parents are welcome to join.

Admission includes popcorn, drink and treat. For more information, call Julie Slifka at 60-845-1594.

3. Today is the last day of the 2011 season for morning lap swim from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. at Sunset Pool. 

4.  The St. Charles Police Department is participating in the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) through Sept. 5. This program includes the "Click it or Ticket" and the "You Drink, You Drive, You Lose" campaigns. 

Please be aware of a heightened police presence in the St. Charles area and ensure all traffic laws are being followed when operating a motor vehicle. 

5. Today is National Sponge Cake Day. Sponge cake has a delicate texture that comes from a whipped egg foam that is the base of most recipes. Its first appearance in a cookbook was in 1650.
