Lightning Strikes Twice, Causing 2 House Fires Minutes Apart Friday Night in Geneva

One is at 1565 Keim Circle and the other at 999 Sunset Road.

Lightning literally struck twice Friday night in Geneva, causing two structure fires minutes apart at two Geneva homes, at 999 Sunset Road and 1565 Keim Circle.

Geneva firefighters reported first to the fire around 7:20 p.m. at Sunset Road, where lightning apparently struck the home and "caused the gas main to ignite and got up the side of the house," Geneva Police Chief Steve Olson said.

"The house was on fire when we got there," Olson said at the scene on Keim Circle. "That was extinguished, and we left some company there, then came here because we had the roof on fire."

The Keim Circle house fire was reported around 7:30 p.m. Firefighters from Geneva, St. Charles, Batavia and other departments joined to fight the blazes.
