Geneva Boy Among 10 Hit When Man Accidentally Fires Shotgun in Elburn Sportsmen's Club

The incident occurred at St. Charles Sportsmen's Club, 44W471 Keslinger Road, Elburn.

Authorities told NBC5 Chicago the incident occurred at the St. Charles Sportsmen’s Club, 44W471 Keslinger Road, Elburn. The man was preparing to put his 12-gauge shotgun away inside the club when he accidentally put a live shotgun round into the gun instead of a snap cap, which is a device used to protect the gun’s firing pin uring storage, police told NBC5 Chicago.

Buckshot from the blast struck the floor and bounced up, striking several people inside the clubhouse, NBC5 Chicago said. A West Chicago man, a Somonauk man and a 14-year-old boy from Geneva were taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva, along with the St. Charles who fired the gun. About seven other people were treated at the scene and released, police said.
