Flood Warning Still in Effect But Fox River Should Be Back Within Its Banks By Sunday

The National Weather Service-Chicago still has a flood warning in place for parts of the Fox River, but the river level is receding.

A Flood Warning remains in effect for parts of the Fox River, but the National Weather Service-Chicago says it probably will be lifted by Sunday.

Geneva, Batavia, St. Charles and communities along the Fox are still recovering from the April 18 rains that flooded basements, back yards, roads and property along the river.

The Flood Warning continues for the Fox River at Montgomery affecting Kane and Kendall counties. The Fox River at the Algonquin Tailwater is also still at flood levels as of Tuesday, April 30.

"The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by early Sunday morning," according to the Flood Warning.

At the Algonquin Tailwater, the flood stage was 11.4 feet as of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Flood stage is 9.5 feet.

There will be chances of thunderstorms Wednesday night through Thursday night, but at this time, the threat for widespread severe weather appears low, the NWS-C said.

In Geneva, Batavia and St. Charles, the river is still over its banks in several areas, but more ground is showing at Island Park in Geneva, Fabyan Forest Preserve and Pottawatomie Park in St. Charles.
