Flash Flood Watch Until Noon Friday; More Rain in PM Could Cause River to Overflow

Rain, rain go away.

The National Weather Service-Chicago has issued a Flash Flood Watch, Flood Warning, Flood Advisory and Hazardous Weather Outlook for Kane County and most of Northern Illinois.

There's supposed to be a "lull" in the morning, then more thunderstorms rolling through during the mid- and late afternoon and continue during the evening hours.

"THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE DURING THE EVENING HOURS AND THEY WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING LARGE HAIL ... DAMAGING WINDS AND HEAVY RAINFALL," the NWS says.

The most immediate danger is from flash flooding on roads, so please be careful if you're commuting by car.

"MOST FLOOD RELATED DEATHS OCCUR IN VEHICLES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES ... DIPS ... OR OTHER LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM ... EVEN A SMALL ONE ... ON FOOT OR IN A VEHICLE."

But flooding of the Fox River continues to be a concern, as well. Batavia is mentioned specifically in the Flood Warning.

"RUNOFF FROM THIS EXCESSIVE RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING TO OCCUR. ... EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM THIS STORM WILL CAUSE ELEVATED LEVELS ON SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS...PONDING OF WATER ON ROADS ... URBAN AREAS ... HIGHWAYS ... UNDERPASSES AND LOW LYING AREAS."

"IF YOU ENCOUNTER A FLOODED ROADWAY... TURN AROUND AND FIND AN ALTERNATE ROUTE."

And it looks like the rain will, in fact, come again another day.
