Firefighters Douse Blaze at Batavia Industrial Building

Traffic was diverted Thursday while crews tended to the fire at an industrial building on Wilson Street near Raddant Road.

A fire broke out at the site of a Batavia industrial building on Thursday, the Batavia Fire Department said.

The fire occurred on the 800 block of East Wilson Street near Wilson and Raddant Road. Fire crews rushed over at about 7 p.m. from their station across the street, 800 E. Wilson, according to scanner reports.

Heavy smoke was observed coming from a commercial building, an early report said. Firemen were still fighting the blaze at 7:16 p.m.

Then the blaze was mainly extinguished by about 7:30 p.m., according to the Fire Department.

Traffic in the area of Wilson and Raddant was blocked during the fire. The intersection was later reopened as officials continued to investigate the blaze.

The cause and origin of the fire, and an estimate of damages were not immediately available Thursday evening.
