10:15 PM UPDATE: Fire Damages Second Floor at Delnor Hospital

Geneva Fire Department: Hospital operations are not interrupted; no one is hurt. Some patients are temporarily relocated.

10:15 p.m.—Fire departments from Geneva, St. Charles, Batavia and multiple neighbor communities reported to a fire alarm at around 6:12 p.m. Thursday.

According to a press release, the hospital called emergency services to report that there was smoke in the building on the second floor. During the initial investigation, firefighters found "a small area of fire on the roof of the building," the report said.

The fire was out by 7 p.m., according to a Tribune staff report.

Minor smoke and water damage did occur on the second floor area directly underneath the fire. A comment to this article, by Beth Ritchason, said the fire was in the surgery area. 

"At no time during the incident were hospital operations interrupted. As a precaution, Delnor Hospital staff did temporarily relocate several patients from near the affected area to other areas of the hospital," the Geneva Fire Department press release said.

No patients were injured.

The fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Geneva was assisted by fire departments from St. Charles, , Elburn, West Chicago, North Aurora, , Winfield, Carol Stream and Sugar Grove.

The initial scanner report said smoke was coming from a locker room. No flames were observed outside the building at around 6:30 p.m., but scanner reports confirmed smoke inside the building.

Fire engines, ambulances and police cars were stationed on all sides of the hospital, and firefighters were seen on the roof of the west side of the hospital.
