Officer Spots Feet in Car Window, Results in Domestic Battery Arrest

An alert Campton Hills police officer spots feet in a car window, and Geneva police arrest a 27-year-old Geneva man for unlawful restraint and domestic battery.

Geneva police arrested Nicholas Neubauer, 27, of Geneva on charges of unlawful restraint and domestic battery (insulting/provoking contact and bodily harm to a family member) around 2:15 a.m. Feb. 27 in the 300 block of Richards Street, reports said.

The victim's description paints a picture of abduction, cruelty and eventual rescue thanks to an alert police officer from Campton Hills.

The victim told police she attempted to leave a house in the 300 block of Richards Street via the back door when Neubauer “wrapped his arms around (her) from behind and squeezed her upper body. He then threw (her) down onto the ground and grabbed her by the arms. (She) tried to get away from him, but Neubauer grabbed her by the hair and began to drag her across the alley," reports said.

The victim "screamed, and Neubauer forced her into his vehicle against her will," reports said.

Neubauer then began to drive away, and the victim told him to stop the vehicle. She noticed that they were traveling west, but she did not know where he was taking her, reports said. She again told him to stop the vehicle or she was going to jump out.

"When Neubauer refused to stop the car, (she) waited until he came to a stop for a taffic signal and attempted to open the door. As she did this, Neubauer grabbed her by the neck and pulled her down toward him. Neubauer held (her) down in the vehicle with his right arm in a ‘headlock’ and continued to travel west on Route 64," reports said.

"(The victim) said she placed her feet up against the front passenger window hoping someone would see her and call the police. While continuing west, Campton Hills police officer (Elliot) Rose observed Neubauer’s vehicle driving eratically and noticed (the vicitm’s) feet against the window."

Sixteenth Circuit Court Judge Marmarie Kostelny set bond as $5,000—10 percent of which is required for release. The court date is 9 a.m. March 11 in Room 217 of the Kane County Judicial Center.
