A semi truck collided with a motorcyle on Route 20 Wedesday afternoon, killing the 21-year-old female motorcycist, the Kane County Sheriff's Office said.
Angela Hansen, 21, of the 1600 block of Sparkhayes Drive in Sycamore died in the crash that took place at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, near the intersection of Route 20 and Plank Road in unincorporated Elgin Township.
The initial investigation indicates a 2000 International semitractor and trailer traveling west on Route 20 had the green light to proceed through the intersection when it struck the 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle as it was facing north on Plank Road, according to the Sheriff's Office press release.
Hansen appeared to be waiting to turn east on Route 20, and when she began the turn, she "accelerated rapidly, crossed the roadway and struck the trailer," the Sheriff's Office press release said.
Hansen was wearing a helmet but was thrown off the motorcycle and pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer, Christopher Portner of Stockton, was uninjured.
No tickets have been issued, and the crash remains under investigation by sheriff’s detectives and members of the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team and Illinois State Police Truck Inspectors.
Route 20 was closed in both directions from Nessler Road to Plank Road while the investigation took place.
