Expect Thunderstorms, Flooding—Tornadoes Possible

A Flash Flood Watch will be in place Wednesday afternoon and night, and there is a possibility or tornadoes.

The National Weather Service-Chicago has issued Hazardous Weather Outlook for Geneva and Batavia.

Just FYI, the forecasts are the same, but if you're keeping track of such things, the latitude and longitude is 41.86°N 88.29°W for Batavia and 41.88°N 88.32°W for Geneva.

For Wednesday, June 12, thunderstorms are likely after 2 p.m.

"Some storms could be severe, with large hail and damaging winds ... New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible," the NWS-C says.

The storms could produce, in NWS-C all-caps: "STRONG TORNADOES DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 75 MPH HAIL TO THE SIZE OF BASEBALLS VERY HEAVY RAINFALL WHICH COULD CAUSE FLASH FLOODING."

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect from about 4 p.m. until late tonight. (This is as of about 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2013.)

The warning says about 2 to 3 inches of rainfall is expected this afternoon and tonight. Higher amounts of 4 to 5 inches are possible.

Side effects may include "RAPID FLOODING OF CREEKS...SMALL STREAMS...ROADS...VIADUCTS."

The proper response to which is, "Why a no chicken?" (See Marx Brothers Coconuts for further information.)

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should a Flash Flood Warning be issued.
