An Elmhurst family woke to a tragedy Sunday morning, when they found their relative deceased outside their home on West Avenue.

William Colatos, 55, was visiting his family at 265 West Ave., just south of North Avenue, on Saturday, Jan. 4, police Chief Michael Ruth said. His family said he left to return to his Chicago home at around 7 that evening.

On Sunday morning, his relatives noticed that Colatos’s car was still parked at their home. They went outside to see what had happened and discovered his body lying alongside the car, covered with snow.

Ruth said there were no visible signs of trauma. He was taken to the DuPage County Coroner’s Office. Information on the cause of death was not immediately available.

This incident remains under investigation by the Elmhurst Police Department Detective Bureau, Ruth said.
