Coyotes Attack a Great Dane in Batavia? Probably Not

Myth busting: The rumor of a coyote attack so far is just that — a rumor.

Patch received a Facebook question from a reader asking whether it was true that a Great Dane was attacked by a pack of coyotes in Batavia.

To the best of our knowledge, no. False. Didn't happen.

At least, Batavia police haven't heard anything about it. We asked Batavia Detective Sgt. Shawn Mazza, and he said nothing like that has been reported. Mazza took the time to look over the daily synopsis and asked several officers and records staff, and it wasn't on anyone's radar.

"That would certainly be one brave coyote considering the size of a Great Dane," Mazza said.

He promised he'd fill us in if he does find out information that this incident or anything like it is true. You do likewise, please.

If you hear of breaking news or news in general that you think would be of interest to the community, email rickn@patch.com or leave a comment on the Geneva Patch Facebook page.

Special thanks to Detective Sgt. Mazza and the Batavia Police Department for keeping us informed!
