'Confrontational' St. Charles Man Faces Criminal Trespass, Retail Theft Charges

The following information was supplied by the Geneva Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

What is the backstory of Douglas Komes, whose name appears so frequently in the police reports in the Tri-Cities?

Komes' most-recent arrests were in May in Geneva, on charges of criminal trespass to property and retail theft, but court records show he is has been arrested on charges related to 16 incidents since Sept. 27, 2012.

Some of the arrest reports list him as a resident of St. Charles, some list him as "homeless."

In addition to multiple criminal trespass charges, he has been arrested on charges of battery, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident since September 2012.

More than 20 arrests are listed under his name from 2003 and prior.

Here are the two reports from late May:

Criminal Trespass to Property

Geneva police arrested Douglas Komes, 55, of St. Charles on charges of criminal trespass to property around 12:22 a.m. Monday May 20 in the 100 block of Commons Drive, reports said. Police responded to Geneva Commons on reports of a man going through the Dumpsters at the shopping center and found Komes, who “immediately became confrontational” with officers, reports said. Police handcuffed Komes, who began swearing at officers who were advising him to leave the property or be charged with trespassing. Komes refused to leave, so officers took him into custody. He was unable to post the $150 bond, and he was taken to the Kane County Jail.

Retail Theft

Geneva police arrested Douglas Komes, 55, of St. Charles on charges of retail theft around 7:38 p.m. May 31 at Marshalls, 1596 South Randall Road, reports said. According to reports, a store manager told police that a man had put on clothes from the store and left without paying. Police found Komes outside the store wearing shirt, jeans, a hat, shoes and socks with Marshalls tags hanging from them. Komes’ address is listed as 208 S. Indiana St., St. Charles.
